In Japan, no matter where you go, you’ll have plenty of options of fresh sushi and sashimi spots to check out and enjoy an authentic meal.
If you find yourself in Shibuya exploring the crossing, Hachiko’s statue and other attractions, make time to enjoy a delicious tuna sashimi lunch at Oh! Toro Kitchen.
Don’t let the restaurant’s flashy exterior fool you into thinking Oh! Toro is only looks and no substance. Inside the spacious interior you’ll see chefs preparing delicious bluefin tuna dishes.
When it was my turn to order, I picked the restaurant’s number one recommendation, the large raw bluefin tuna bowl for 1,450 yen ($10).
After a quick 5-minute wait, I received my beautiful fishbowl and with miso soup. The vinegar-flavored rice in the bowl was topped with shining, dark red raw tuna slices, white vinegared ginger, yellow pickled radish, black seaweed and green wasabi. This bowl really had a nice color combination of vibrant, shimmering hues almost too delectable to disturb.
The impeccable presentation made me pause before digging in, but I was hungry, so it dug in quickly after sprinkling a little bit of soy sauce on the fish and rice. The chew of the fresh bluefin tuna was incredible. The full-bodied rich, sweet and tender tuna sashimi, paired with the tangy vinegar rice and wasabi kick was delectable.
According to the menu, Oh! Toro’s tuna comes straight from the Toyosu Fish Market daily.
If you’re not a fan of raw fish, try their “tuna tail steak” for 1,080 yen or “deep-fried minced tuna” for 650 yen.
Oh! Toro’s sake list is also excellent and perfect to go along with your delicious meal.
Don’t skip this spot next time you’re in Shibuya or try their other location in Shimbashi if you want to try tuna without the crowds.
