Boast of the second largest annual hauls of tuna in the nation, Misaki in Miura City has been known as an important tuna fishery port since 1922 when the Fish Market was established. Misaki is located at the tip of the Miura Peninsula, about 12 miles from Yokosuka Naval Base. The port town gives off a nostalgic atmosphere and most of the shops and dozens of restaurants clustered around the port serve up tuna products and dishes. Be sure to drop by a market facility, Fisharina Wharf Urari. There are 13 shops selling tuna products where you can sample not only various raw fish and tuna curry, but also “maguro toro man” (a bun with tuna filling) and tuna-flavored ice cream.
