Whenever my wife and I go walking around scenic Minatomirai District in Yokohama City, we always make sure to stop for tasty pasta and fresh baked bread at Kamakura Pasta.
The chain restaurant has a location inside the Mark Is Minatomirai shopping mall and offers a spacious dining area decorated with chic, contemporary takes on Japanese traditional design.
Kamakura Pasta specializes in Japanese-style pasta dishes with all-you-can-eat freshly-baked breads for reasonable prices. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, the restaurant has a lunch set including pasta, salad, and coffee, tea or orange juice starting at 1,000 yen. Add on the all-you-can-eat bread option for an additional 180 yen.
The lunch menu at Kamakura Pasta offers a variety of pasta dishes with either cream, tomato, or meat sauces. Our usual go-tos are the Genovese pasta with basil or the chicken tomato cream pasta.
While waiting for our entrees, the restaurant staff circled the dining area with a large basket filled with a variety of baked breads and allow you to choose from the bunch. Some of the breads available include croissants, yomogi rolls, garlic rolls, basil rolls, melon pan and more. The freshly-baked bread are crispy outside with nice springy texture inside and an appetizing aroma.
The staff is generous with the all-you-can-eat bread, so, to tell you the truth, we usually get our fill before the pasta even reaches our table! When our entrees do finally arrive, we dig in because the pasta is made from select Italian durum Semolina flour and is always served at the perfect al dente.
The chicken tomato cream pasta sauce is cheesy and has a great sweet flavor thanks to the herbs and tomato. The Genovese pasta has a refreshing flavor that is rounded with black pepper, garlic and olive oil and topped with parmesan and homemade balsamic sauce.
Diners at Kamakura Pasta eat their meals with chopsticks, but you can ask for a fork and spoon if you’re more comfortable handling the saucy pasta that way.
The next time you’re looking for some tasty pasta or bread, or just need a nice place to take a quick rest after long walk around Minatomirai District, check out the inviting atmosphere at Kamakura Pasta.
