While our travel plans may be put on hold, it doesn’t mean we can’t dream up where we’ll go next.
Welcome to virtual vacation video series where we can explore destinations from the comfort of our homes.
Join me as I take you on a short virtual journey to Bangkok, Thailand.
The great thing about this destination is that is easily accessible from almost anywhere in the Pacific Theater and getting there can be relatively inexpensive thanks to many budget airline options available in the region.
As the capital of Thailand, there is plenty of culture, shopping, food, and everything in between which makes it a great place for a getaway. Some of the must-see spots in Bangkok include Wat pho, a temple famous for its golden reclining Buddha and Khao San Road, an infamous backpacker hangout with many cheap guesthouses, and plenty of street food, nightlife options, and cheap souvenir shopping.
On my last trip, I also took advantage of the local tour companies that offer many guided options at great prices. I chose a day trip to visit Wat Mahathat in Ayutthaya, Thailand’s ancient capital, about 1.5 hours outside of Bangkok. Here, I got to see many ancient temples including the famous Buddha head embedded in Banyan tree roots.
Also, don’t miss a visit to one of the many floating markets in the city. In the video, we visit Khlong Lat Mayom in the southwestern part of Bangkok. The markets are a great place to take in the local culture and get a taste of the delicious Thai street food.
Speaking of food, Thailand is known for its exquisite cuisine and spicy food. Try Tom Yum Kung, a spicy shrimp soup, pad Thai and Gao pao, spicy ground pork on rice. And for dessert, try mango sticky rice, fresh-cut fruit, or Thai milk tea.
I hope you enjoyed a look at beautiful Thailand through my travel photos and that it’s inspired your next trip. Stay safe and get ready to travel with us in our next video. Thanks for watching!
