Yugawara City in Kanagawa Prefecture is very close to tourist hotspot Hakone. The city is an impressive district, home to dozens of hot spring ryokan inns, a beautiful valley with waterfalls and foot spas which make it a superb touring destination from Zama, Atsugi and any other Kanto bases.

Manyo-Park in Yugawara spreads along the Chitose River and was selected as one of the best 100 historical parks of Japan. The recreational area is great for hiking and a nice picnic.

At the park entrance, grab a bento box, drinks and snacks in case you get hungry. And, take advantage of their book rental for when you take a break from hiking. There are benches and rest areas scattered throughout the park for some fresh air, shade and views of the Chitose River.

One unique feature you might want to reserve ahead is time at the park’s spa! Soyu offers various indoor and outdoor baths and for 5,500 yen (about $45), you can enjoy the facility for five hours and enjoy a lunch made with locally-sourced fish and vegetables.

Man-yo Park in Yugawara is a beautiful location and has all of the elements for a relaxing day surrounded by Mother Nature.
