Shonan Kokusai Mura, or Shonan International Village, is only a short 20-minute drive from Yokosuka. This village offers a beautiful view of Yokosuka City and Hayama Town and Mount Fuji in the distance.

Recently my wife and I visited the village and enjoyed our early-spring strolling around the village.

You can park your car at a free parking lots at the end of the village. And a 15-minute walk along the stone-paved path through various lodging and seminar facilities leads you to a nice park on the hill.

Take a visit just before dusk, for a panoramic sunset view of Mount Fuji, Enoshima and Izu Oshima Islands over Sagami Bay. Visit soon and you might be lucky enough to catch cherry blossoms blooming.

Shonan International Village was founded by Kanagawa Prefecture in 1994 as a base for international cultural and exchanging and various world-size research and development activities. The village is zoned into the researching and development, lodging and restaurants, along with residential areas. While the research and development area is packed with schools and conference facilities, such as Graduate University for Advanced Studies, Institute for Global Environmental Strategies and International Productivity Center, the park in the residential area lets tourists enjoy the outdoors and beautiful view.
