Gumyoji is only a 30-minute drive from Yokosuka Naval Base and is the oldest Buddhist temple in Yokohama City. Built in 1044, the premises house a large wooden gate with two guardian gods, a 254-year-old main temple building, a large bell tower and various stone monuments. Locals believe that touching the statue of Jizo in the temple field while chanting a spell “onkakaka bisanmaeisowaka” will cure you of any pain and disease. Try it when you visit the temple!
