In Fukushima Pref.’s Aizu region visitors will be amazed with many unique traditional temples, such as Sakudari Kannon and Sazae-do. Built on a steep mountain slope in 830 A.D., the Sakudari Kannon boasts a beautiful vista and impressive wooden structure. The 14-meter temple construction is supported by only a lattice of wooden pillars and beams. Sazae-do (literally, temple of horned turban) built in 1796, has a three-story, double-helix wooden structure, which resembles the shape of horned turban. Head to Aizu and explore the area’s interesting architecture!
