Lake Towada near Misawa AB is a great place to visit. It boasts pristine forest and its waters are crystal clear.

In the fall, this is a great fall foliage spot. And, in the winter, visitors head back to the lake for a view of its impressive illuminations.

Though COVID-19 restrictions are still in place, join us for a virtual tour of this year’s display brilliantly depicting the legend of Lake Towada through illuminations, graphic mapping, musical performances and nightly fireworks.

The Lake Towada Winter Story of Illumination 2020-2021 follows a 1-kilometer course and retells the legend which says the lake was once possessed by an evil serpent with eight heads. The monster is defeated when a monk with great faith arrives. After, the monk transforms into a dragon and remains the lake’s guardian deity to this day.

About the illuminations Note: Please follow your base command rules on travel. Avoid large crowds, wear a face mask, practice social distancing and proper handwashing procedures.
