JAPAN

(Stripes Japan)

With the rainy season officially over on Okinawa, summer activities (and hot days) are in full swing on the island. In the heat of the moment during a hot, sunny summer days, it’s common to hear people say “totemo Atsui desu,” which means “it is very hot.”

(“totemo” – very, “atsui” – hot, “desu” - is)

If you are in Okinawa, you may also hear Okinawans say “Achi san,” which means “it is hot” in Okinawan dialect.

Or, they may also say “deeji atsui” or “shini atsui.”

(“deeji” – very in Okinawan dialect, “shini” – very ~ to the point of death, in Okinawan dialect)

The summer is very long in Okinawa, so stay cool by water sports and other activities.
