While warmer air gradually covers mainland of Japan, the cherry blossom front is also moving up from the south to the north in late March. This year, the Kanto is expected to see the first blooms of the season on March 22, according to Japan Meteorological Agency.
To celebrate the long-awaited spring, Yokota Air Base’s Sakura Spring Festival returns on March 29.
The on-base festival hosted on the eastside of base under the 500-meter-long avenue lined with stunning cherry blossom trees. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms, live entertainment, food vendors, game booths and plenty of fun activities.
On-base residents and CAC Cardholders can hop on a shuttle running from the Enlisted Club and Bowling Alley to the base theater every 30 to 40 minutes from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The event is also open to off-base visitors. Japanese nationals and residents ages 16 and older must present a valid form of identification like a passport, driver’s license, My Number Card or a residence Identification card (Zairyu Card) upon entry. Non-U.S. or Japanese visitors must also register 72 hours prior to event. In addition, visitors will be required to have their bags searched upon entry.
No parking is available for visitors on base.
