While most of Japan has entered the soggy “tsuyu” rainy season, this depressing weather produces some elegant and unbelievable blooms like such as roses, hydrangeas and irises.
At Rose Garden Naka, about a ten-minute drive from Misawa Air Base, an impressive family-owned rose garden welcomes visitors with colorful blossoms and a sweet aroma.
The garden is on the grounds of Akinori Nakaguki’s home in Oirase Town and features over 300 rose varieties, 360 trees, and many other flower varieties sure to drive away the rainy blues. During the rose blooming period, the family opens the garden to the public for free of charge.
Yoshihito Morita, an employee of Misawa Air Base Commissary, recently visited the flower garden with his parents.
Morita said the garden’s beautifully arranged and sweet-scented flowers welcomed them.
“The tiny garden enabled my old parents to walk through and enjoy roses closely, “Morita said. “When they got tired, they could sit on a bench among roses for a rest surround by the lovely flowers.”
According to Morita, Nakaguki and his wife decided to make rose cultivating their shared hobby when he was about to retire. The success of their dedication means that now they can share it with the public.
During his visit, Morita said Nakaguki offered them beverages and gifted them a yellow rose. Morita’s mother was moved and said she would like to return for the next rose season.
The roses in the garden can be enjoyed until early July. Don’t miss your opportunity to enjoy the stunning blooms!
