As the cherry blossoms have swept north from the south, it’s finally time for Aomori Prefecture to enjoy everyone’s favorite season!

As of April 12, the sakura blossoms have started to bloom in Hachinohe City in Aomori, marking the start of the season there, the Japan National Metrological Agency announced. This is the second earliest bloom next to last years’ according to the agency’s records.

This year, residents can look forward to the return of the “Sakura Matsuri” or cherry blossom festivals which had been postponed due to the pandemic the past two years.

Events are set at Hirosaki Castle from April 23 to May 5; Hachinohe Park from April 29 to May 5; and at the Towada Central Street from April 20 to May 5.

Yoshihito Morita of Misawa Commissary said the cherry blossom trees are just starting to blossom at his home in Tohoku Town while his plum trees are already in full bloom.

Misawa will soon be covered in soft pink again. Temperatures are expected to keep rising and full bloom is expected to happen over the next couple of weeks in Aomori Prefecture.

Take a little time to enjoy the gorgeous views, Misawa!
