A typical whole tuna offers roughly 2,000 hand-shaped pieces of sushi. In Japan, the first auction of the year at the Tokyo Fisher Market always draws people’s attention because of the astronomical prices. In 2017, a 467-pound Bluefin tuna, caught in the Oma Straight near Misawa AB, was purchased for 74,200,000 yen ($680,000), or $340 per piece of sushi.
