Milton Coffee Roastery (Tomoyuki Arao )
Shunan City is a short, one-hour drive from MCAS Iwakuni and has many attractions on a nice daytrip.
Among the many shrines, temples, onsen resorts and outdoor activities like hiking Mt. Taika or the Setonaikai National Park, you’ll find a great spot for a strong cup of joe.
Milton Coffee Roastery has two shops, one in Kume and another in Hanabatake. Both locations offer freshly brewed coffee made with high-quality beans from Central and South America.
Tomoyuki Arao, an employee of Stars and Stripes’ Iwakuni Office, said he fell in love with the coffee at Milton the first time he came across the shop.
“The aroma of the coffee was really outstanding,” Arao said. “Sample any coffee at the shop, and you can see what I mean.”
Though Arao admitted that the cost for a cup of Milton’s roasted coffee is a little pricey when compared to other competitors, he said the quality makes it worth it. Arao recommend the Nicaraguan coffee for 700 yen since that type is particularly rare to find in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
Next time you’re in Shunan City, make sure to take a coffee break at Milton Coffee Roastery.
