This forms part of the “shichigosan” or seven-five-three celebration. In Japan, girls ages 3 and 7 and boys at age 5 visit the temple or shrine either on Nov. 15 or within the time frame as part of the Shichigosan tradition to ward off evil spirits and wish for a long and healthy life.
Today’s Japanese phrase is: "Shichi-go-san omedeto!" = Congratulations on your seven-five-three celebration!
