Camp Zama's intramural softball preseason kicked off tonight with a trio of games, the first being between the 78th Signal Battalion Shoguns and the 10th Support Group Samurai.

The Samurai went into the bottom of the fourth inning with an eight-run lead. The Shoguns mounted a rally, including a three-run in-the-park homer, but the Samurai later turned a double play that ended the game 15-11 in their favor.

There are seven teams in the league this year—including U.S. Army Garrison Japan, the Japan Engineer District, U.S. Army Aviation Battalion Japan Ninjas, the 38th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, and U.S. Army MEDDAC – Japan Tanukis.

Preseason games will continue through this week, followed by a four-week break, and then resuming with the kickoff of regular season play following the Bon Odori Festival.
