Misawa Air Base, Japan -- Taking care of Airmen is about ensuring their individual well-being as well as the well-being of their families.

Caring for Airmen and their families directly aligns with Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Charles Q. Brown, Jr.'s “Action Order A: Airmen” that emphasizes a people-first approach is key to the United States Air Force's ability to remain the world's most dominant Air Force.

In accordance with Action Order A and to enhance the well-being of Airmen and families here at Misawa Air Base, the 35th Medical Group is revitalizing, reorganizing, and renovating the clinic and some of the services provided.

Slotted to start in April 2022, the project will span over three years and work to modernize the facility and equipment while bringing the building up to current standards after remaining unchanged for nearly 26 years.

“The importance of this project is to improve our capabilities for providing Ready Reliable Care to our beneficiaries,” said Lt. Col. Zeik Malone, 35th Medical Support Squadron commander. “It will allow us to provide a world-class facility and services to the Misawa AB community.”

Some of the changes are expanding the dental clinic, allowing for an improved functional layout and greater separation of staff and patient area, and renovating approximately 1700 square meters, enhancing sterile processing, nutritional services, pharmacy services, and patient records services.

Overall the project will increase the functionality, workflow, and ability to provide timely, quality care to service members and families at Misawa AB.

“Once the project is complete, customers will have a facility more aligned with modern civilian facilities which patients visit in the United States,” said Malone. “It will have an inviting open layout with all new equipment and system upgrades.”
