Home to bases of U.S. Navy and Japanese Self-Defense Force, Sasebo is a naval port city where American and Japanese cultures meet. It is considered to be the first city of Japan where hamburger was sampled, and there are a lot of “Sasebo” Burger joints packed in down town aka “Sailor Town.” Sasebo is home to various natural and cultural attractions, such as Nimitz Park, Kujukushima (Ninety-nine Islands), Saikaibashi Bridge, Miuracho Catholic Church, Yutoku Inari Shrine and Yumiharidake Observatory, as well.
