After an over five months’ closure, the Shirakami Line (or Route 28) in Aomori, has finally reopened to traffic.

The stretch of highway between Sunagose and Anmon allows visitors the opportunity to explore UNESCO World Heritage site, the Shirakami-Sanchi mountain range.

Shirakami-Sanchi mountain range is covered with pristine beech forests, and is home to black bears, serows and 87 bird species.

Various hiking trails in Shirakami-Sanchi lead through the forests to majestic waterfalls, mountain peaks with breathtaking panoramic views, a miniature version of the Grand Canyon, and scenic lakes of crystal-clear blue water.

Besides hiking in the pristine forest, driving along the mountainous highway lets you enjoy extremely refreshing mountain air and amazing views.

Spring is finally here and here’s another great way to get out and enjoy it!
