Now you too can train like an Olympic skateboarder at a new skate park that just opened near Misawa Air Base.

Misawa Skateboard Park officially opened at Sky Plaza Misawa mall on March 2 and it offers over 140 square meters of rams and pipes to perfect the skill of any level skater.

Since the park is indoors, you can enjoy skating regardless of the weather. The park also offers free skateboard, helmet and guard rentals. Admission is free for kids up to middle school age and 500 yen for adults. The fee for adults is waived through May 2024.

Yoshihito Morita of Misawa Commissary recently visited and said many of the skaters were helping each other to skate and learn how to do tricks.

“I saw children who seemed scared to play at the beginning rapidly improving and enjoying it,” Morita said. “I hope to see some of them in a future Olympics.”

Shuichi Yamauchi, managing director of Misawa City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the park is a community builder for local residents and the base community. Yamauchi added that he hopes the park will promote friendship among the neighbors and skateboarders enjoying the sport.

According to Yamauchi, elementary and middle schoolers need their parent’s consent for the use of park (English version of the consent form and instructions are available at the park). Skateboarding outside the park on Misawa Town’s public roads is prohibited.

Head to Misawa Skateboard Park to practice your skills and make some friends!
