Shopping area at Haneda Airport Garden ()

Haneda Airport, Tokyo’s most convenient airport, has many awards to affirm its status as a great airport, but now it is offering a convenient way to make sure you get to your flight on time.

Earlier this year, the major hub opened the Haneda Airport Garden, a multipurpose complex including Hotel Villa Fountaine, a 1,717-room hotel complete with an onsen ideal for soaking your travel stresses away.

The Haneda Airport Garden also has 60 stores, 20 restaurants and a food court.

The Haneda Airport Garden is directly connected from the international terminal (Terminal 3) of Haneda Airport.

To access the facility, hop on a shuttle from your terminal headed to the Haneda Airport Garden. The facility is attached to Haneda’s International Terminal (terminal 3), so you can easily access it on the third floor via a green illuminated façade near the check-in counters.

To access the airport via train, take the Keikyu Express Train departing from Shinagawa Station in Tokyo, Yokohama Station in Kanagawa (if you’re departing from Camp Zama or NAF Atsugi) or Yokosuka Chuo Station (if you’re departing from Yokosuka Naval Base). The airport is also accessible via shuttle bus and by car, but the train is the easiest since you don’t have to worry about traffic.

Grab last-minute souvenirs

During my visit, I was impressed by the classic Japanese-style promenade, where 15 shops were selling local products like wooden umbrellas, paper fans and more, reminding me of shopping in an old Tokyo shotengai.

Further down, I entered a torii gate-like entrance to the Haneda Sando, where shops were selling sake, kimonos and cosmetics. This section was like strolling Tokyo’s famous Asakusa district. These are definitely places to pick up some last-minute souvenirs for your friends and family!

Rest and relax near the airport

After a little bit of shopping, I made my way to the chic Hotel Villa Fountaine.

This convenient hotel features rooms with amazing views of Mt. Fuji, Tama River, and, in some cases, the airport tarmac. Most uniquely, the high-end hotel accommodates a rooftop hot spring bath with therapeutic waters extracted from 1,500 meters underground.

The relaxing open-air bath and exceptional views were enough to melt away all my troubles.

The spa and rest areas are accessible 24/7 for both hotel guests and airport visitors, according to a staffer.

Admission to the spa is 4,800 yen ($34) and though it may seem expensive, the atmosphere and peace of mind of being close to your terminal is worth the price.

Better than airplane food

After a relaxing soak on the deck, you’ll definitely want to grab a nice bite to eat. Make sure to drop by the Haneda Food Selection or Oedo Food Halls on the first and second floors.

Here you’ll find Kikukawa serving unagi eel, Tajimaya serving Kobe beef shabu-shabu , Hanayama serving up bowls of udon and many more great restaurants to enjoy.

Don’t sleep on this great shopping, eating and resting spot

Even if you don’t plan to spend the night or catch a few hours of sleep at the hotel, Haneda Airport Garden has plenty to entertain you if you have some time to spare before your flight.

Catch some Z’s, a delicious meal and some great souvenirs before you head out. Safe travels!
