Camels at the sand dunes

Camels at the sand dunes ()

The diversity in Japan's landscapes is incredible, and one of the unique landscapes to enjoy here is the Tottori Sand Dunes. The dunes occupy an area of over 30 square kilometers and have existed for over 100,000 years.

The views you can get from the dunes over the surrounding seas are sure to take your breath away, and since this is the prefecture's largest tourist attraction, you also have the opportunity to explore the dunes in a rather quirky, perhaps gimmicky way - on camelback! It will set you back almost 1,500-2,600 yen a person for a ride, so bring some yen.

Getting there: The Tottori Sand Dunes are just over ten minutes drive from the Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport. Both taxis and private rental vehicles are available from the airport.

Alternatively, if you're visiting the area via public transport take the bus bound for the Tottori Sand Dunes from Tottori Station. The ride takes approximately 20 minutes and it's the last stop on the route.
