Plan to head to Soleil Hill, a beautiful European-style park, for a wonderful summer sight of over 100,000 sunflowers!
The park is only a short 40-minute drive from Yokosuka Naval Base and offers great views of the summer beauties and the stunning blue waters of the Sagami Gulf.
According to a park employee, the summer flowers just started blooming and you can enjoy the full bloom starting at the end of July to early August.
The grounds span 28 hectares and boast flower gardens, a Ferris wheel, a restaurant and spa. You can also BBQ year-round with rental grills and supplies available for a delicious lunch. Western-style farmhouses, fountains, shops and storage buildings, modeled after houses in South France, are scattered throughout the park.
After recent renovations, the park now has a large athletic field, a zipline and various glamping cottages and bungalows. They even have a dog run for fido. There is plenty to do at the park for the whole family!
Originally, the park was a housing and radio facility for the U.S. military and Japan Self-Defense Forces. Soleil Hill opened to the public as a park in 2005.
Sunflower viewing lasts only a few weeks, so plan a visit to Soleil Hill soon!
