Winter and early spring means Japanese strawberry season. Starting from December to late April various farms throughout the country hold strawberry picking events for visitors to (at fixed price and often for a limited time-span) pick and taste as many strawberries as they like. Tochigi as well as Gunma Prefecture are well-known for its many strawberry farms. However for those who feel planning a whole trip only for the sake of sweet red berries a bit to time consuming, there are options. If a day-trip from Tokyo feels good enough then Kamakura Kanko Strawberry Farm is the given option. Within 80 minutes from Tokyo (Shinjuku station), strawberry enthusiasts can savor the popular Benihoppe which tastes sweet and sour, along with the farm’s original brand specie Benishizuka.
Strawberries are planted both on the ground the at the high place, so also children and elderly can participate.
Located in the old politic center of Japan, Kamakura, the farm is closely located to historical shrines and temples along with the popular old-style shopping street Komachi Dori.
