inCiderJapan* is delighted to announce the date for the second annual Japan Cider Cup international cider event: Saturday, 13 April 2024. Taking place once again at the Tokyo Tama Mirai Messe in Hachioji, Tokyo, the Japan Cider Cup is the country's largest celebration of cider, the alcoholic apple beverage that continues to gain popularity in Japan since its breakout in 2019.
The April event is the culmination of the Japan Cider Cup people's choice awards tasting competition, which began in October 2023, with domestic and international entries competing for boasting rights to be recognized as the best tasting most popular ciders in Japan. Entered ciders are scored over months across multiple rounds of judging by various members of the general public, food and drink professionals, and notable guest cider experts from across the globe; winners are then announced and awarded prizes on the day.
In addition to the awards ceremony, the Japan Cider Cup event offers attendees the chance to taste and purchase some of the winning ciders as well as a variety of items from a collection of cider, beer, food, and miscellaneous other vendors. The event also features live entertainment and fun things to do, and is children friendly.
Last year's Japan Cider Cup drew more than 1000 people, including several from overseas who came especially for the event. This year's promises to be bigger and better, and is made particularly exciting by a collaboration with the esteemed Northwest Cider Association from the United States, who will be participating at the event as special guests with a select group of their cidery members.
Admission to the event is free and is a unique opportunity to meet and speak with cider makers from across Japan and abroad, as well as enjoy an afternoon filled with delicious food, drink, and festivities.
