Ikego Elementary celebrated Unity Day on October 20th. Unity Day is a day where people stand up against bullying and unite in support of inclusion, acceptance and kindness. Students created chalk drawings symbolizing this message. Art teacher Ms. Cadin offered inspiration for this project in her classes, by teaching students in the 4th and 5th grade about the artwork of Keith Haring who drew images of friendship, love and peace. On October 20th, each class was given chalk and invited to draw images around the school on the sidewalks and road with messages of support promoting Unity Day. Fourth-graders Arthur-louis Corpuz, Marquell Vance and Ysabella Basilio wrote the message, “Color doesn’t care.” While Frankie Turner created a “Don’t Bully” flower.
