YOKOSUKA, Japan - Amir Rashad Clark was the first baby of the New Year born at U. S. Naval Hospital (USNH) Yokosuka, Japan. Amir, a baby boy, was born on Monday Jan. 1, 2018 at 10:02 a.m. Japan Standard Time (JST) to Brittney and Chief Electronics Technician Byron Clark.

Mother and baby are both doing fine.

Amir weighed in at a healthy 7 lb 1.6 oz. (3220 grams) and measured 19 1/3 inches (49 cm) at birth.

Brittney is a native of Newport News, Va. while Byron hails from Danville, Va. and is currently serving aboard the USS Antietam (CG-54), forward-deployed to Fleet Activities (FLEACT) Yokosuka, Japan.

USNH Yokosuka is the largest U.S. military treatment facility on mainland Japan, and delivers an average of 45 babies per month. The hospital serves a beneficiary population of approximately 43,000 active duty personnel, family members, civilian employees, contract personnel, and retirees.
