Though spring has yet to fully arrive, there are still signs of spring here and there. If, even after all that, the winter blues still have you down, why not take a day trip for some summer vibes at the Riviera Zushi Marina nearby?

From Central Tokyo, the marina resort at Shonan Beach is about a one-hour drive away or about a 35-minute drive from Yokosuka Naval Base.

Riviera Zushi Marina was opened in 1971 and features luxury hotels, wedding venue, restaurants, cafes and sports facilities. The marina can even accommodate up to 300 yachts at a time!

Recently, my wife, daughter, and I visited the high-end resort in quest of the summer flavor in the chilly air.

Although the scenic main street, lined with dozens of majestic palm trees, is known as a famous Instagram-friendly spot, thanks to the cold air of March, we saw the resort was quiet and peaceful with fewer visitors than in the summer.

The street also had sweeping views of the Sagami Bay area and Shonan Coastline with Mt. Fuji off in the distance. With such a scenic location, there is no wonder the resort is a frequent filming location for movies and commercials. During our walk, we actually happened to spot a filming session!

We stumbled upon a scene of flashing police cars with officers near a hotel, but they were actors filming a detective movie. There was a small crowd of us that stopped to watch the scene with interest.

Beyond the views, the resort offers upscale Italian cuisine, stylish cafes and various sports activities. You might also want to check the website for a short lunch cruise from the harbor, which lets you enjoy stunning views of Enoshima and Shonan Coast from the water.

Even in the chilly late winter months, Zushi Marina’s unique setting will sure make you feel the warmth of summer!
