It’s the holiday season, and towns and streets across Japan are covered in beautiful winter illuminations. If you are in Yokosuka, brighten your day by visiting Verny Park. Located next door to the naval base, the French-style park lights up with stunning winter illuminations daily from 5-10 p.m., until Jan. 4. Named after a French engineer who founded Japan’s first Western-style shipyard in 1871, the spacious park is home to various trees and flowers and gives you a great view of both U.S. and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force ships.
