Home to Yokosuka Naval Base and the U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet, the city and area outside the base has a long history as Japan’s first Western-style shipyard with dry docks in 1871. Yokosuka City is also known for its numerous parks with great views of the ocean and mountains, like Sarushima Island, Mikasa, Tateishi, Arasaki and Kannonzaki Parks. The Yokosuka Museum of Art, Hashirimizu Shrine and Soleil Hills are other must-see attractions in the area.
