Kawazusakura have started to bloom in Miura Peninsula, home of Yokosuka Naval Base. For today’s lesson, I take you to Komatsugaike Pond near Keikyu Miurakaigan Station, for a close look at the early blooming cherry blossom heralding the arrival of long-awaited spring.

Today’s Japanese phrase is: “Sakura ga mankai desu!” = Cherry blossoms are at the full bloom!

("sakura" = cherry (blossoms/tree), ".. ga .. desu" = .. are/is.., "mankai" = at the full bloom)

Let's practice this Japanese phrase as the cherry blossom bloom wave spreads across mainland. Stay safe and enjoy the arrival of spring!
