15-minute walk from Hardy Barracks, Nogi Jinja is a Shinto Shrine dedicated to a historical general, Maresuke Nogi. Nogi commanded the Imperial Army during Japan-Russo War (1904-05) and was contributed to Japan’s victory. The shrine was built next to his residence, and you can check out the general’s residence, stable and garden, as well. Nogi and his wife immolated themselves on the death of Meiji Emperor in the residence.
