Tokyo Disney Parks to reopen July 1, but still off-limits for DOD

Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea will begin operations on July 1, officials announced on the parks’ website.

Though many have been anxiously awaiting the reopening, COVID-19 restrictions are still in effect for U.S. military bases in Japan. The restrictions include a strict ban on visiting theme parks and other similar high-crowd areas.

The parks are set to reopen under guidelines set by the Japanese government’s “Basic Policies for Novel Coronavirus Disease Control.”

Measures outlined by Disney include social distancing, enhanced cleaning and sanitization, temperature screenings, mask requirements and increased hand-sanitation stations. In addition, face masks will be required, however due to high temperatures in the summer, Disney said masks may be removed in outdoor portions of the parks where social distancing measures can still be met.
