Tokyo is getting a spectacular new nighttime attraction this summer, and it is happening in one of the city’s best waterfront spots. On August 29 and 30, Odaiba Seaside Park will host a special collaboration between Tokyo Aqua Symphony’s fountains and a massive 800-drone light show.
The free event is part of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s efforts to create new nighttime entertainment that showcases the city’s mix of traditional culture and cutting-edge technology. For two nights only, the regular Tokyo Aqua Symphony performances at 7pm and 9pm will be replaced with special 10-minute shows synchronizing fountains, lights, music, and drones.

The performances will feature two programs, “Canon” and “SAKURA FUBUKI.” “Canon” creates a fantastical underwater-inspired world where marine life comes to life, while “SAKURA FUBUKI” uses hundreds of illuminated drones to bring Japanese culture, Edo-era traditions, and Tokyo’s official cherry blossom, the Somei Yoshino, to the night sky.
With the fountains stretching across the waterfront below and 800 drones lighting up the sky above, it sounds like the kind of Tokyo spectacle that will have plenty of people reaching for their cameras.
Both performances are free to watch, although the observation deck at Daiba Seaside Park is expected to get crowded. The drone portion may also be cancelled or modified if weather conditions make flying difficult.
For visitors looking for something a little different to do after dark, this could be a pretty memorable way to experience Tokyo’s famous “old meets new” spirit.

Odaiba Seaside Park is located just three minutes on foot from Odaiba-kaihinkōen Station.
