A new attraction has opened in Tachikawa City which is bringing visitors a new spot to enjoy art and fresh air with less crowds.

Green Springs is adjacent to Showa Kinen Park, a favorite for the Yokota Air Base. This new concept also features green spaces but includes a music hall, various restaurants and cafes, and other facilities like an office building and hotel.

Visitors to Green Springs can enjoy its PLAY! Museum which includes a permanent exhibition of the works from popular children’s book artists like Eric Carle of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”-fame. Another special exhibit, “Kaoten,” features many faces by artist collective Tupera Tupera. This one is an interactive one which allows visitors to disguise or transform their face with stickers to become a part of the exhibition. It’s fun!

This area also features PLAY! Park, an unusual indoor playground with strange-looking play equipment and toys that are produced by various artists. Both the museum and playground are a great space for families. Reservation is recommended as there are currently capacity limits as part of COVID-19 prevention measures.

In the outer part of the complex, the large park promenades feature many trees and flowers. Grab a drink and snack at the many shops available and enjoy them in the green space.

Green Springs is a great way to spend an entire day with your family enjoying a new space with many activities. And, don’t forget to make your reservations ahead!
