Misawa American Day, one of the city’s beloved summer events, has been canceled after attempts to postpone the event for later this year.

This will be the first time in the 32-year history of the annual event, which is held on the first Sunday in June, that it will not be held. Misawa American Day started in 1989 in conjunction with the U.S. air base and local city to celebrate American culture and foster friendship with locals and the military community.

Originally the event had been postponed until October or November as a measure to prevent the exposure to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, organizers made the decision to cancel the festivities this month, Hirotoshi Mikami, president of Misawa International Club and American Day Executive Committee, said.

For more information on the American Day event, contact Misawa International Club at 0176-51-1600.
