USO Japan honors volunteers: Cpl. Christian A. Garner

Service Member of the Year: Cpl. Christian A. Garner, Combined Arms Training Center Camp Fuji

Garner enlisted in 2016 and in 2018 was sent on the USS Iwo Jima to assist with Hurricane Irma relief in Florida. After, Garner deployed with VMM-162, serving on the USS Iwo Jima to Israel, Jordan, Bahrain, Cyprus and Spain with the 26th MEU. While with the 26th MEU, beyond his duties as Cook on Watch, chief mess Assistant Chief Cook and ward room Assistant Chief Cook, Garner was awarded the Chef of the Month. Garner was then sent to Camp Fuji earlier this year as the Alpha Watch Chief Cook. At Fuji, Garner is also the Single Marine Program president, helping with unit combat readiness and planning fun, entertaining activities and events for the Marines there.
