Tell's Clinician Spotlight: Kelly Edens

Kelly is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), joining us as a part of the Okinawa team! Welcome Kelly!

Please introduce yourself!
My name is Kelly Edens and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). I grew up in Wisconsin and lived there until I finished my bachelor’s degree in Milwaukee. From there, I moved to Rock Hill South Carolina where I was able to finish my master’s degree and meet a lot of great people!

What brought you to Okinawa?
My husband is in the Marine Corps which is what brought us to Okinawa. We were surprised by official orders saying we were coming to Okinawa the same month I graduated from my master’s program. It was a very busy 3 months getting ready for our move. Now having lived in Okinawa for almost a year, we have grown to love it!

What is your clinical background? What type of clients do you enjoy working with?
My counseling experience so far has involved a lot of variety. I have worked with clients from 6 years old to 60 with a variety of abilities and disadvantages. I have worked with clients one on one, in groups, and as family units. So far, I have not found a specific population to work with that is my favorite. I appreciate variety in my schedule and enjoy a fresh challenge! Going forward I would like to learn more about Polyvagal theory and complete my Gottman Method Couples Therapy, level 2 training.

How is your experience so far at TELL?
So far, I have loved working for TELL! It has offered me opportunities that I never thought I’d have. In addition to seeing clients, I get the privilege of helping TELL get connected within the community. TELL also gives me space to be creative and figure out ways to continue and improve community outreach programs and methods. Our leaders at TELL have created an incredible environment that is ideal for personal growth!

What are your 3 favorite things to do in life?
My 3 favorite things to do in life are probably going to concerts with friends, traveling, and spending time outside. Especially in Okinawa, we love scuba diving, snorkeling, hiking, and exploring the island!
