U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Christopher Frank, 35th Fighter Wing aviation safety noncommissioned officer, collects wildlife remains following a bird-strike incident during a Wild Weasel Walk-Through at Misawa Air Base, Japan, Aug. 18, 2026. Collected remains are submitted to the Smithsonian for species identification, providing data the Bird Wildlife Aircraft Strike Hazard program can use to track wildlife trends and focus future mitigation efforts around the airfield.
