Pillow soft, white as a cloud. With its own Japanese term for describing the bouncy texture (‘fuwa fuwa’), the souffle pancake has no competition when it comes to most loved desserts in Japan.

Luckily, there are endless options should you wish to try one for yourself, all offering a dazzling array of variations on the original. With their cartoonish wobble, souffle-esque texture and artistic mise-en-place, they are just begging for a photo and a bite.

In tourist saturated Omotesando, Kishu no Megum offers both delicious pancakes and a calm escape. Tucked away on a side street, it has the kind of shop front that has you walking inside before you know where you’re going.

In warmer weather, guests can make use of the cozy looking outdoor veranda, complete with wooden garden furniture and warm throws.

The interior is cool, white and zen. A beautiful sakura tree installation acts as the room’s center piece.

Guests can choose between the light-filled window seating or more intimate seating options towards the back.

Frequently covered by TV shows and magazines, Kishu no Megum’s Creme Brulee Pancakes are a best seller. Mandatory, therefore, to give them a spin.

The pancakes were presented in a stack, with two soft pucks sandwiching a generous layer of cream.

Sugar had been carefully torched until it formed a glistening, golden crust on top.

Encircling the stack was a ring of housemade berry compote.

Just like a real creme brulee, the burnt sugar coating cracked when tapped with the back of a spoon and added a smoky toffee aroma to the creamy richness of the filling. The berry compote added a welcome palate-cleansing tartness.

It's safe to say, Kishu no Megum is the perfect destination to spend a leisurely afternoon in Omotesando.

The only downside? Maintaining some self-restraint!
