Vocal competition offers high schoolers chance to showcase their singing skills
Do you have a high schooler with a golden voice? Then, this may be a can’t-miss chance to showcase its talent to the public.
One of the most prominent conservatories in Japan, the Showa University of Music, is currently inviting entries for its annual vocal competition for high school students. The competition draws the attention of a wide range of musicians and students throughout the nation, with over 200 strong candidates competing each year.
High school students under 20 can join the event, regardless of nationality, so sign up today to compete.
The 18th Annual Art Song Vocal Competition
Eligibility: high school students (under 20)
Preliminaries: a vocal piece in Italian
Location & Date: Kanazawa and Fukuoka (May 13), Nagoya and Okayama (May 14), Sendai and Nanjo (Okinawa) (May 20), Sapporo (May 21) and Kawasaki (May 27 and 28)
Final: 2 vocal pieces of Italian and either in Japanese or English (within 6 minutes)
June 10, 12 p.m. at Showa University of Music (Tokyo)
Fees:
6,000 yen ($55) for Preliminary
6,000 yen for Final (for winners of preliminaries)
Judges: Panel of voice faculty member of Showa University of Music
Awards:
Outstanding Performance (a few): Prepaid gift certificate of 50,000 yen, Certificate of Merit, Plaque and tickets to performances by Fujiwara Opera and Showa University of Music
Honorable Mention (a few): Prepaid gift certificate of 10,000 yen, Certificate of Merit, Plaque and tickets to performances by Fujiwara Opera and Showa University of Music
Outstanding competitors may be selected as qualified students to its scholarship program. All preliminary candidates will receive the results and assessments on their performance in writing.
Entry: Download and fill out the application form (www.tosei-showa-music.ac.jp/albums/abm.php?f=abm00003707.pdf&n=Application+Form+2017.pdf) and send that with application fee and copy of student ID card to the Showa University of Music during Apr 3 – 21.
