The Japan Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Japan Post is pleased to announce its intent to offer scholarships to graduating seniors of Department of Defense Education Activity - DODEA or US certified International High Schools in Japan. The scholarship(s) awarded will be a minimum of $2,000 to be used exclusively for tuition, books and fees at any accredited college, university, community college, junior college, or vocational school in pursuit of a curriculum related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).

Founded in 1920, the Society has a storied history of uniting public and private sector individuals and organizations from across the architecture, engineering, construction, environmental and facility management, cyber security, project planning, contracting and acquisition, and related disciplines in support of national security.
With a National Office in Alexandria, Va., and 100 Posts around the world, SAME provides its 25,000 members with extensive opportunities for training, education, and professional development through a robust offering of conferences, workshops, networking events, leadership training, publications, webinars, technical presentations, and other member-driven programs.
The Japan Post is composed of both military and civilian members in various engineering capacities at all US military bases across Japan, along with many private individuals and companies in the local community from across the architectural, engineering, construction, and related fields.
Scholarships are open to all graduating seniors from DODEA or US-certified International High Schools in Japan who intend to pursue a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering (or Architecture), and Math (STEM) …or a field of study central to the Architecture-Engineering-Construction industry.
Those who have received 4-year full scholarships or appointments to a military academy are requested not to apply for this scholarship.
Complete the application form provided and include the following attachments:
1. Write a brief essay stating the applicant’s educational plans, future goals, motivating factors, and influences for pursuing a course of study in a STEM-related field. Essay shall be typed, double-spaced, and shall not exceed two pages (approximately 1,000 words).
2. ACT/SAT scores if available
3. Submit an official transcript of grades from Grade 9 through Grade 12 first semester.
4. Submit two signed and dated letters of recommendation. One letter must be from a teacher. The other letter may be from a supervisor at a summer workplace or a volunteer activity, community group leader, or similar person having a first-hand knowledge of the applicant’s character and abilities. Letters from parents or other relatives will not be accepted.
5. Proof of acceptance to an institution of higher education. If acceptance is not available before the application deadline, the application will be accepted with an attachment stating such, however proof of acceptance must be submitted before any payment is made.
6. List of honors received for any school or extracurricular activities.
Applications must be received by the SAME Japan Post no later than 31 March 2026 via either regular mail or e-mail. Addresses are on attached application form. If e-mailed, send either in one file in proper order (preferred) or multiple files with logical file names. Letters of recommendation can be accepted separately NLT the same due date if the recommending person so desires. Selection Criteria The following items will be considered in awarding scholarships. Criteria are not listed in any particular order.

Selections will be made based on individual merits. All applicants will be given equal consideration without regard to race, sex, religion, age, national origin, or other prejudicial factors; however, applicants must intend to pursue a degree as described in the eligibility requirements.
Scholarships are to be used exclusively for tuition, books, and/or fees for the coming academic year at any accredited college, university, community college, junior college, or vocational school.
All applicants will receive notice, whether congratulation or regrets, within a few weeks after the application deadline.
If awarded a scholarship:
Scholarship funds will be presented accordingly at either
Your schools annual award ceremony or
A SAME Japan Post General Membership Meeting (GMM).
If a GMM, parents/guardians are welcome. GMM date, time, and location will be coordinated separately.
If Awardee is unable to attend their annual award ceremony or one of our GMMs, we will work with the Awardee to ensure they receive their scholarship award.
The check will only be made payable to the Awardee.
Upon award, awardees will be asked to provide a photo that can be used later at a SAME Japan Post meeting or industry forum to celebrate all those who earned scholarships.
