Football: Kadena forces nine turnovers to rout Kinnick

YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan – A Kadena team that hurt itself with turnovers the week before took full advantage of nine takeaways on Friday.

Kai Christy had two interceptions and a fumble recovery and Tre Shears also recovered two fumbles, helping the Panthers to a 50-0 triumph over Nile C. Kinnick at Yokosuka’s Berkey Field, a game delayed by lighting at the start for 90 minutes.

“We were able to capitalize on turnovers, which is something we hoped would happen,” said coach Sergio Mendoza, whose Panthers leveled their record at 1-1 following last Friday’s 34-22 home loss to Kubasaki.
