First Annual Career Day at Iwakuni Elementary School

Students at Iwakuni Elementary School, aboard MCAS Iwakuni, took a break from their normal routine to learn about careers during the school’s First Annual Career Day. As part of the school guidance standards, students in the elementary grades are developing their Career Awareness.

Mrs. Mary Fisk, school counselor, organized this event to ensure her students had the opportunity to begin planning and setting goals for the future. The guidance department, comprised of Mrs. Fisk, Mrs. Natelvi Archuleta, school psychologist, and MFLC, helped give the students a glimpse of their possibilities after graduation.

Elementary School is when students start developing study skills, social skills, and all the skills they will need for their career. Career Day is a great opportunity to help students prepare for their lives. This event opens some new ideas for students to see what they might want to do when they grow up, and it helps them see what hard work can get them.

There were a wide variety of professional fields represented at the First Annual Career Day. The presenters included: a dancer, the Military Police K-9 Unit, NCIS, Child Development Center, EOD, the base Vet, a dentist, a chiropractor, the fire department, MWSS-171, and a pediatric nurse who Skyped in from the USA.

Mary Fisk and the guidance department are so grateful to the MCAS Iwakuni community for supporting this event for their students. It would not have been a success without them!
