OKINAWA, Japan — Jazz and rock musicians from DoDEA Pacific high schools will perform together here Nov. 20 during the DoDEA Pacific Far East Jazz & Modern Music Festival concert. The concert is free and open to anyone with base access and begins at 6 PM local Japan time at Kubasaki High School or via a live webcast:

The festival kicked off Nov. 17 and includes a Far East Jazz Band, Jazz Chorus, and Garage Band. The styles being explored during the festival include big band with notable musical selections spanning several eras of jazz.

Fifty-five students are rehearsing this week in preparation for their culminating performances at Kubasaki High School’s auditorium Nov. 20.

A committee of DoDEA Pacific high school music educators reviewed more than 150 auditions in a highly selective process. As another indicator of student enthusiasm for the festival, the audition recordings were due only one month after school began at the end of August.
