CTC selected as a top school in Military Advanced Education’s 2016 guide to colleges and universities

Military Advanced Education and Transition (MAE&T) recently announced Central Texas College (CTC) is one of its top military schools included in its 2016 Guide to Colleges & Universities. The publication measured the best practices in military and veteran education to develop its list which was released in late December. It is available online at www.mae-kmi.com.
 
From community colleges to state universities, online universities and nationally known centers of higher learning, MAE&T’s 2016 Guide to Colleges & Universities arms students with information about institutions that go out of their way to give back to those in the military. The guide presents results of a questionnaire of the military-supportive policies enacted at more than 600 institutions including private, public, for-profit, not-for-profit, four-year and two-year colleges. With input from an advisory board of educational and government experts, and criteria based on recommendations from the VA and military services, MAE&T’s Guide to Colleges and Universities provides the foundational information a prospective student would use in framing his or her educational needs.

Now in its ninth year of publication, MAE&T was the first publication to launch a reference tool of this type. “We think this year’s Guide is our most comprehensive to date, thanks to our newly established advisory board,” said Kelly Fodel, MAE&T editor. “The board evaluated the drafts of the questionnaire, made pages of notes and suggestions and helped to redefine questions for clarity. Schools were evaluated on their military culture, financial aid, flexibility, on-campus support and online support services.”

Each school’s performance rating, by category, is represented by an easy-to-recognize dashboard which enables prospective students to quickly target schools that follow best practices in military education. Students can then put these in context with other academic or career considerations.

CTC received perfect ratings in its understanding and support of the military culture and flexibility. It achieved near-perfect scores in online support, on-campus support and general support. CTC also received a high score for financial aid offerings. “One of the original objectives of CTC was to be a strong supporter and provider of education for military personnel,” said Jim Yeonopolus, CTC chancellor. “Our inclusion on the list of top military schools is an honor we do not take lightly. We are proud of this accomplishment and will continue to do all we can to ensure we offer the best higher educational opportunities for those in uniform and our veterans.”   

 CTC, which had been previously included on the Military Times’ list of most popular school by active-duty soldiers who use tuition assistance to pay for their higher education, was also recently named to its Best for Vets Colleges list. A Yellow Ribbon school, CTC is one of the largest distance learning providers currently offering 21 degree plans and 21 certificate programs which can be completed solely online. Course offerings include hybrid/blended classes as well as classes through multimedia sources such as personal digital assistants, CDs and secure digital cards.  CTC has also been consistently listed in the top 15 percent of the G.I. Jobs list of military-friendly schools named to the list of top military-friendly schools.
