ZaCSA Auction: Heroes, Villains unite
Camp Zama -- Super heroes and villains flocked to the Zama Community Spouses' Association 10th annual Live and Silent Auction March 19 at the Camp Zama Community Club.
Community members donned their favorite super hero and villain costumes to join forces and raise money for Zama American High School senior's scholarships.
"Every year the ZaCSA Auction is an opportunity for our community to get together and help our high school seniors achieve their college dreams," said Karen Long, ZaCSA Auction coordinator. ZaCSA was able to raise close to $13,000 for their scholarship program.
"The community really were heroes this year and raised so much money for the senior scholarship program," she said.
The event featured 14 live auction items and 64 silent auction items that were donated by community groups and individuals throughout Camp Zama.
The top three live auction items were: a Progressive Dinner hosted by four Eagles Nest Families; an acrylic painting by Tanya Ritchey that was painted live during the event; and a Latino Block Party hosted by the Latino American Club.
Long said the winning bids on these three items alone totaled nearly $3,000.
Over 130 community members attended the event. There were multiple "Wonder Woman" and "Captain America" costumes in attendance. Star Wars' "Yoda" and "Darth Maul" participated by calling the live auction and guarding the jail.
Perhaps the most entertaining portion of the evening was the mock-jail.
Super heroes and villains were issued warrants for arrest for crimes such as "gratuitous monologuing;" "instigator of chaos;" "attempted world domination;" and "miscellaneous nefarious acts."
The mock-jail brought in over $700 in bail money during the event.
"We are so grateful to be a part of ZaCSA and have the opportunity to participate in the scholarship fundraising efforts," said Mary Jansen, event participant and ZaCSA Member. "The auction is the best event of the year on Camp Zama!"
