Yokota Spring Asian Bazaar online sales platform extended until April 12
YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan – The Yokota Spouses’ Club (YSC) recently created a secure online sales platform (www.yscbazaar.com) to continue to bring the annual Spring Asian Bazaar to Yokota Air Base and the Kanto Plain! The online platform is a quick-thinking alternative to the physical bazaar – which was postponed mid-March. Customers can still shop for Asian furniture and antiques, décor, woodblock and etched prints, collectibles, recycled obi and kimono products, jewelry, soy sauce, and more from across the Far East – all from the comforts of their homes while supporting a worthwhile cause!
The YSCs’ team of volunteers have worked very hard to get the site up and running! They’ve built the site, worked with vendors to secure inventory, descriptions, photos, delivery options, and more, in order to bring the bazaar to the Community.
“Many people were disappointed when the bazaar was postponed. We really wanted to do the bazaar in person, but with corona, we knew we had to try a different avenue,” said YSC Club President Erin Laskey. “Instead of postponing, we put our thinking caps on and figured a way to continue with the bazaar and ran with it.”
The online five-day “popup” for Balinese furniture and décor started on March 24, 2020 – and has now been extended! Additional vendor popups will continue until the event ends April 12, 2020, or when inventory runs out. New inventory is being added daily as additional vendors sign-on with the event.
At this time, the YSC has no plans to hold another bazaar in Fall 2020 as their normal venue is booked. Also, with plans to attempt another physical bazaar in Spring 2021, there is not enough time to do both a Fall and Spring Asian Bazaar.
The bazaar is open to all SOFA-sponsored personnel and their families. A military ID is required for purchases. For delivery, on-base pickup on Yokota is free; furniture delivery is available courtesy of the YSC on- or off-base for a nominal fee. Many vendors will also deliver or ship off-base and to surrounding installations in the Kanto area to include Yokosuka, Atsugi, and Camp Zama!
All of the YSC’s proceeds from bazaar sales are donated directly back to the Yokota community for educational scholarships. Last year, the bazaar scholarships alone were over $30,000.
