YOKOSUKA, Japan - Vice Adm. Richard Brown, commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet presents the Battle Effectiveness (Battle “E”) award to the crew of Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold (DDG 65). The Battle “E” competition is conducted to strengthen individual command performance, improve overall force readiness, and to recognize outstanding performance. The award symbolizes the overall readiness of the command to carry out its assigned wartime tasks.
